Volunteer Tutor / Learning Coach
The Community Adult Learning Program at NorQuest College helps adults build their skills in basic reading, writing, math, computers and English language learning (ESL).
We believe in a learner-centred, personal approach where adult learners set and meet the goals that matter to them.
Volunteer Tutors work with adult learners one-on-one or in a small group to provide instruction and support to help them build their foundational skills.
Approximately two hours per week for tutoring, plus time for lesson planning;
Approximately six month commitment
Tutors work with adult learners one-on-one or in a small group to help them reach their goals in reading, writing, math, basic digital skills and/or English Language Learning.
Provide encouragement and support to help the learner increase their skills and confidence.
Help the learner set short-term and long-term goals.
Plan, prepare and give lessons that support the learner’s goals, learning needs and interests.
Connect with the learner regularly (once or twice a week) for six months or more.
Communicate on a regular basis with the CALP staff at NorQuest.
Participate in program evaluation.
Maintain confidentiality with respect to the learner and the organization.
- Develop new skills in communication and problem solving.
- Receive free training and professional development.
- Access a large library of learning resources for yourself and the learner(s) you support.
- Help adult learners build their literacy and foundational skills, and their confidence.
