Volunteer Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for basic membership, individuals must meet the following prerequisites:

• Be at least 18 years of age or older
• Demonstrate a genuine desire to serve the community
• Have sufficient availability to commit to involvement in a community organization
• Possess current standard first aid and CPR certification
• Provide a Criminal Record Check + Vulnerable Sector Check (Required for All Positions)

Operational Member:
Operational Members collaborate as a cohesive unit under challenging conditions and diverse terrains to locate, rescue, and administer medical aid to individuals in distress across urban, rural, and wilderness settings, regardless of weather conditions. Responsibilities encompass a wide array of tasks, including hiking, search operations, lifting, and operating various vehicles such as ATVs, boats, and snowmobiles. While no prior skills are mandatory, proficiency in beneficial areas such as knot tying, map reading, GPS navigation is advantageous. Successful candidates must demonstrate dedication, teamwork, cooperation with other agencies, ability to follow instructions, work with minimal supervision, possess effective communication skills, and skillfully assess risks while completing tasks safely.

Support / Non-Operational:
We seek individuals interested in contributing to non-operational aspects of our team. Opportunities include:

• Light equipment maintenance
• Data recording during events
• Fundraising efforts

Becoming a Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteer offers the chance to save lives, gain professional training in wilderness survival and rescue techniques, and build strong camaraderie with a dedicated team. It provides a profound sense of community service and purpose, helping people during emergencies.

Essential Functions:

• Volunteer Advocates provide direct crisis intervention, court support, and organize community engagement events
  Advocates must be able to maintain strict confidentiality
  Advocates take turns being on call for a regular rotation
  All required training is provided
  Minimum 1-year commitment required
  Volunteer Advocates must provide a clean Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector

Training:
We provide our volunteers with extensive training and professional development opportunities throughout the year. Our training program includes topics such as victimization, suicide prevention and intervention, assault, bias crimes, domestic violence, elder abuse, property crimes, robbery, sexual assault, stalking and harassment, and sudden death.

Further training is also provided on the criminal justice system, financial assistance program, restitution, restorative justice, legal remedies for victims of crime, as well as court orientation/support accompaniment, and crisis intervention skills and communication.

To arrive at the hospital at your arranged time, spend 30-60 minutes with the patient doing something engaging with them for the time that you have to offer. Be aware of their possible limitations and respect the privacy of those around you.

Enter the hospital and sign in, take your pet around for visitations to patients, carry hand sanitizer for patients to use before and after visiting with your pet, try to engage with the patient for 5-15 minutes, sign out when you are done.

It is self-fulfilling to be a volunteer. It has a great impact on the community. It is a good way to build your resume or collage application. A great way to keep your dog socialized. A great way to help enhance the lives of others.
